What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a rehabilitative therapy that is dedicated to helping an individual maintain, recover and improve their physical abilities. Physiotherapy is most commonly used in cases involving accidents or injuries. A Physiotherapist can help you return to your regular daily life as soon as possible after an accident or injury. Through a regimented treatment and exercise plan, a physiotherapist will help you manage and prevent a variety of physical problems that can be caused by illness, disease, sport and work related injuries, aging, and inactivity.
How does Physiotherapy work?
Before a physiotherapist can implement an action plan, an initial physical assessment must be completed. This assessment will test your reflexes, sensations, strength and balance. Related joints, muscles, ligaments, and nerves will also be tested in order to determine the scope of your treatment needs and to design your action plan.
You action plan can be carried out through multiple techniques including:
- Individualized therapeutic exercise plan
- Range of motion exercises
- Strength and Conditioning Training
- Therapeutic Stretching
- Spinal Decompression or manual traction
- Joint mobilization
- Kinesio and Athletic Taping
- Cardiorespiratory conditioning
